GAINESVILLE GREEN RESOURCES

GREEN LIVING is of the utmost importance to individuals, families, communities and the world as a whole. If we want to leave a healthy environment to our children and our children's children, there is so much we can do to preserve nature's beauty for future generations.

As a Green Realtor, I am well versed in many areas pertaining on how we, as individuals, can make an impact on the world's health, from low-cost ways like landscaping with native plants (Xeriscaping) and composting, to more expensive retrofitts and remodels, or even building new energy efficient homes, which has the additional benefits of reducing costs, becoming less reliant on fossil fuels and nuclear energy to provide basic needs. Begin small, by purchasing wrap insulation for hot water heaters and pipes, conserving heat and saving on your energy bills. Buy products for household use that are truly biodegradable and safe for family, pets and the Earth.

Products like Seventh Generation, Mrs. Meyers (which I personally love their Lemon Verbena cleanser, dishwashing soap, handcleaner, and household cleaner), and METHOD which is available at Target are good choices. Simple Green is also a wonderful product and I just love how it smells.

Also, you can go and search the Gainesville Florida Local Green Page Directory for a listing of businesses specializing in Green Living, from garden centers for xeriscaping native plants to Dry Cleaners (there is one in the Publix Shopping center where my office is in Haile Plantation. They use safe products for dry cleaning.

. Did you know that Gainesville Florida is positiioned as being well situated to take advantage of the burgeoning green technology that is available and our Mayor Pegeen Hanrahan was recently touting our advances in that field at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Denmark in December 2009?
People at that delegation, upon hearing about Gainesville's solar feed-in tariff, energy efficiency programs, and planned biomass powerplant, were certainly impressed. See the link below for the full article, compliments of gainesville.com.
